Q: Where is the departure and disembarkation point?

A: Tram stop #125 Normanby Road, near the corner of Clarendon Street, adjacent to the Melbourne Exhibition Centre.  You will find us located diagonally across the road from the Crown Casino and the Crown Metropol Hotel. See a map on the Contact page.

Q: What is the cancellation policy?

A: Changes and cancellations cannot be made within 7 days of travel.

Q: Where can I find car parking close by?

A: There is limited street parking, however Crown Casino and the Melbourne Exhibition Centre have secure car parking and are located across the road from our departure point. Both are accessible 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Q: When does it operate?

A: Luncheon, Early Dinner and Late Dinner operate daily.  The Tramcar Restaurant can be scheduled for exclusive private charters including Breakfast, Morning Tea and Afternoon Tea.

A: Please refer to the Times & Prices page for additional information on the departure times and prices. All prices quoted include beverages.

Q: What is included in the cost?

–       4 courses (Appetiser, Entrée, Main and Cheese Board)
–       All beverages (beer, wine, basic spirits, juice, soft drink and liquor served with tea and coffee)

Early Dinner
–       3 courses (Appetiser, Main and Dessert)
–       All beverages (beer, wine, basic spirits, juice, soft drink and liquor served with tea and coffee)

Late Dinner
–       5 courses (Appetiser, Entrée, Main, Cheese Board and Dessert)

Q: How often does the menu change?

A: Our menu changes seasonally for Summer and Winter. However, it is subject to change more often at our discretion.

Q: Where does it travel?

A: All services are scheduled to travel through the city and surrounding suburbs, for example, Albert Park, St Kilda and South Melbourne.  Alterations to the trip could be made due to traffic disruptions or events in Melbourne.

Q: Is there a restriction on how many drinks I can have?

A: There is no restriction on the amount of beverages you consume, however we do practice Responsible Serving of Alcohol.

Q: Are gift vouchers available?

A: The Colonial Tramcar Restaurant offers open dated gift certificates for Luncheon, Early Dinner and Late Dinner, or more simply for a monetary value.  Presented in a special souvenir folder they make an ideal gift for Christmas, anniversaries, birthdays or any special occasion. They can be purchased online or by calling 03 9695 4000.

Q: Are children allowed on board the tram?

A: Yes we do welcome children aboard the Tramcar, and can accommodate children aged 5 years and above.  This age restriction has been carefully considered in the interests of health and safety.

Q: Does the Tramcar allow wheelchair access?

A: Due to sizing restrictions we are unable to board wheelchairs and walking frames onto the tram.  We can provide secure storage for your wheelchair for the duration of the trip, which will need to be prearranged. Please contact our friendly Reservations consultants to discuss your requirements.

Q: How is payment required?

A: Full payment is required within 7 days of making the booking. Online reservations require full payment at the time of booking. We accept all major credit cards, cheques or money orders. 

Q: Are the Tramcars air conditioned?

A: The Tramcars are air-conditioned and heated.

Q: Do you cater for dietary requirements?

A: Dietary requirements must be advised to our office at least 48 hours prior to departure. While we will endeavour to accommodate requests for special meals for customers who have food allergies or intolerances, we cannot guarantee completely allergy-free meals. This is due to the potential of trace allergens in the working environment and supplied ingredients.

Q: Can I travel if I am pregnant?

A: Yes, you can travel if you are pregnant. Please be aware The Colonial Tramcar Restaurant provides fixed booth seating. Please contact our reservations consultants to discuss your individual requirements.

Q: Is there a toilet on board?

A: Yes there is.

Q: How many patrons can be accommodated?

A: 108 passengers.  Our fleet consists of 3 travelling Tramcar Restaurants with a maximum seating capacity of 36 passengers per tram. There is a section of 24 and of 12 on each Tramcar. Each section has booths for 4 people and 2 people.

Q: Does the booth seating impose any space restrictions?

A: The Colonial Tramcar Restaurant provides fixed booth style seating of 4 or 2.  There is no provision for moving tables and there is limited fixed space between the front of the table and the back of the chair.

Q: What is the dress code?

A: Smart casual.

Q: Will I get motion sickness?

A: Our trams are moving vehicles travelling at low speeds. If you are prone to motion sickness there is a possibility you may experience minor motion sickness. We recommend you face the direction of travel while on board.

Q: Can you organise flowers, cakes?

A: Yes, a corsage or long stem rose can be purchased at a cost of $15.00.  A cake can be purchased at a cost of $25.00.  At least 3 days’ notice is required to order these items.
